Mary and the word handmaid

DEFINITION OF HANDMAID

The bible refers to Mary mother of Jesus as a handmaid but what does this mean? Through the lense of the churches of Europe the word defines a young girl, but the bible provides a different definition for handmaid. There are variations of ancient terms for handmaid and one of them is Shifchato, from the Orthodox Jewish Bible.

HANDMAIDS OF THE BIBLE 

Laban father in-law to Jacob gave to his daughters Leah and Rachel handmaids named Zilpah and Bilhah, who became surrogate mothers of some of the tribes of Israel.

 Apparently, handmaids had no rights to their own bodies. in the ancient world the word handmaid means concubine or a participant in what is called a morganatic marriage? The marriage of Boaz in the book Ruth represents a morganatic marriage, which is defined as a tradition when a noble or elite marries a person of a lesser class and this is something Mary, mother of Jesus could have experienced.

Between the old and New Testament, the land of Judea was captured by the Romans under the Julio-Claudian dynasty during a war and Herod was appointed as the ruler.  Deuteronomy 21:10-14 is crucial in understanding the culture of the handmaid. Based on my interpretation of the text, a woman captured during war, and desired by a ruler or noble, would be delivered to the noble and returned to her tribe or her people upon his discretion. Please read the NIV for clarification.

This is similar to circumstances surrounding Hagar the handmaid of Sarah and could be a reason for Joseph being permitted to marry, the pregnant Mary, who identified herself as a handmaid. 

The laws of Deuteronomy 21:10-17 seems to be common for the tribes of Asia but was this custom worldwide? Does this practice still exist in certain religions and regions in the world today? We should consider the marriage of Prince Harry and Megan Markle as an example of ancient classism. Most important this theory about morganatic marriage makes the birth of Jesus practical and applies the immaculate conception to the trinities of African mythology and the Greek church.

If Mary were impregnated by a human what does this mean about the origins of salvation?  There are many books that claim the story of salvation is older than Jesus of Nasareth and recorded in pyramid text, but before we jump to any conclusions let's understand the Greek, Hebrew and Roman definitions of the word handmaid.

Trinity

The ancient people of biblical times believe there was a difference between the personalities of the father, son and holy ghost, these people applied characteristics to each name that was used in the various trinities.  This is something the theologians of the new world seemed to be familiar with but by the time the protestant churches broke away from the Catholic church it took on different path.

Let's be clear if Jesus was in the beginning, he was not floating around in space zapping people. This spirit was operating through someone long before Jesus of Nazareth was born. The father son and holy ghost are titles they are not names, yet the trinity is an ancient concept, yet we view it through the Lense of people who either did not understand ancient concepts or wanted to change the concept.  

Let's look at the Godhead; the 3 persons of the trinity, with distinctive personalities. A ghost is the spirit of a dead person and because John the Baptist was filled with the holy ghost before Jesus was born, this means someone died before the New Testament. God in Colossians is different than Father! 

Jesus said to the man don't call me Good only God is good but said he is one with the father Mark 10:18 in Colossians and John the Greek has different definitions for earth and world. 

In order to understand the concept of the trinities a Greek and Hebrew concordance will help as well as Hinduism and the Gods of the Pharoahs. We have to study further than the hebrew in order to get clarification. I use Biblegateway and Biblehub as well as a Greek and Hebrew Concordance. We need a study of Rome during the new testament period. The study of the Greeks and Rome are the gateway to understanding the Pharoahs and the Gods of Hinduism.

Trinities or Triunes were common in ancient times. Most ancient people combined deities, for instance the Hindu religions. The priest of the Israel/Judah did not pray to Abraham, Isaac or Jacob but certain Ancient Africans were unique in that they prayed to their ancestors. When someone passed away they believed they joined the other ancestors. The priest of Israel prayed to either Yhwh/Hehu or Amun-Ra and possibly other deities, 

   It is probable that the Egyptians of the bible (African tribes) may have honored all of the ancient deities but they combined ancient deities to create what the historians call cults but today these cults would be considered denominations. Each trinity consisted of a Male, Female and Child. It is possible that some were unisex. I am unsure as to what the tribes in other regions of Africa practiced but the names should tell the story.  

  Becoming familiar with the names of the ancient deities can provide insight to the various names in the bible and their African roots. For instance Tanzania is a German translation but I am not sure if Tanzania is the original name of the region but it does look like Atan is a part of that name and if it is the Atan is a solar deity. 

    Genesis 4:26 "and then men began to call upon the name of the Lord".  This text could mean that at this point in history people began to name their children after the Lord but what is the definition of Lord. Most of these deities in the ancient world are linked to the celestial sphere of the cosmos; meaning astrology and what most Christians don't watch, the sky. 

    The trinities such as Amun (father - the hidden), Khnum (the potter who formed man) and Mut (the mother of all deities, the protector of all) were a very popular trinity from the region near what we call Ethiopia.  There were other trinities with the same concept but only one with a ruler who was said to be murdered and resurrected. He is also said to be the ancestor of some or all Africans. The debate about his origins were ongoing, and that seemingly includes the first church.

  When studying the first church and the council of Nicea you will see that the debate was regarding the divinity of the father and son. Was the son fully divine or part divine. This debate can also be had about the African father named Nunak, Akanu, Anak, or Osiris, it is possible that he had more names but the trinity of the Mother Asus, the Father Osirus and the Son Horus or Korys is a very important trinity of ancient times that is linked to Birth death and resurrection. 

Names and words in the bible

Trinities originated in Africa as did Modern civilization. The biblical people of Egypt were Native Africans and the culture migrated from the ancient tribes of the the area of Kenya/Ethiopia towards the Mediterranean. It is very probable that at one point in history that land of Arabia was attached to Africa. This would mean at one point they may have had similar cultures. 

In the pyramid texts there are names of ancient deities  that were a part of a tribunal of Gods/spirits.  The writings and drawings in the Pyramids and tombs of  told stories are parallel to certain books in Genesis.

The name of one group of tribunal deities is the Ennead and the other group is the Ogdoad. Both are Greek translations of ancient African words. These could also be associated to the men of renown in the book of Genesis and the sons of God.

The Ogdoad  is the tribunal of creation deities linked to the moon. It starts with Ptah and Thoth (thought) and then the male and female spirits associated to the darkness. Next we have the male and female related to the deep. 

The next two deities are generally not mentioned but are a substantive force in creating the universe. Recently I have found out that these deities are related to the text Genesis 1:27 "In the image of God he created him, male and female he created them."

The Ennead is the tribunal associated to the solar deities. One of them is the creative Force, the next are two are Sky and Moisture.  Next are the Earth and land who created  the first celestial humans, Two females and two males.

Many of the wars that were fought in ancient Africa were because of these tribunal of Gods; most popular are two brothers. There were many debates and wars as to what deities should be worshiped or who should be the supreme ruler over all of the Gods also known as priesthoods.

This words in the bible and the ancient world have been impacted by translation and transliteration this is a process used by the ancients, where they change alphabets and then use an system of  inversion (swamping letters around).

The next group is called the Ennead by the Greeks but the pre-translated name is said to be Psdt or Psdt. One thing to note there is a spirit with the name of sopdet this should be explored.
